ALGIERS – On Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, highlighted the exceptional political ties between Algeria and Tanzania and their promising prospects in the realms of economic and social cooperation. He stressed the need for further efforts to harness the full potential of collaboration and integration opportunities provided by the economies of both nations.
Speaking at the opening of the 5th session of the Algerian-Tanzanian Joint Cooperation Commission, which he co-chaired with Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ms. Stergomena Tax, at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center (CIC, Alger), Mr. Attaf expressed delight at the high quality of Algerian-Tanzanian relations, both politically and diplomatically, and their bright prospects in the economic and social domains. He urged both parties to put in more endeavors to fully exploit the cooperative and integrative opportunities that their economies have to offer.
The Minister expressed his confidence in the mutual commitment between President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu Hassan. He highlighted the significant and consistent steps taken by both countries under their leadership in terms of political and economic reforms. He believed that this shared commitment would breathe new life into the cooperation process between Algeria and Tanzania and provide strong momentum in key areas for their collective endeavors.
Furthermore, Mr. Attaf emphasized that the quality of relations between the two countries is also demonstrated by their shared positions on African continent issues. Both nations are committed to actively contributing to the attainment of security, development, and integration objectives across Africa.
In light of increasing challenges and escalating conflicts on the continent, which have recently extended to the neighboring and brotherly country of Niger, further complicating the precarious situation in the Sahel-Saharan region, the Minister stressed the necessity for enhanced consultation and coordination. Both nations must fortify strategic consensus on the imperative to find purely African solutions to African problems, however difficult, sensitive, and complex they may be.
Mr. Attaf asserted continued coordination between Algeria and Tanzania concerning developments in Libya, Mali, and Sudan, as well as their shared vision for alleviating the sufferings of the Sahrawi people in the last African colony. He took the opportunity to commend the firm commitment of the United Republic of Tanzania in supporting the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union.
On the international stage, the Minister emphasized the joint dedication of both countries to multilateral cooperation and the principles of non-alignment. Given the escalating tensions facing the world and their direct repercussions on countries and peoples of the continent, Algeria and Tanzania remain committed to collaborative efforts in navigating these challenges.
