ALGERIA – Units of the territorial gendarmerie group in Oran have dismantled a criminal network specialized in the trafficking of undocumented migrants and the organization of clandestine sea crossings from Morocco, stated a press release from the same services on Tuesday.
“This operation was carried out in close coordination between the units of the group, following the exploitation of security information,” according to the same statement.
Investigations and surveillance of the suspects led to the cessation of activities of this international criminal network specializing in the transport of undocumented migrants from Morocco to Algeria, while preparing sea crossings,” the same source said.
This operation resulted in the arrest of 9 individuals, including 5 Algerian citizens and 4 Moroccan nationals, “in addition to the seizure of a motorboat (150 hp), two engines, a truck, and a motorcycle, as well as 10 containers of 30 liters filled with gasoline.”
It also involved the seizure of “sums estimated at 1950 euros, 20 Turkish lira, 2500 Algerian dinars, as well as passports and bladed weapons.”
After “completion of the legal procedures in force, the suspects were presented to the prosecutor of the Republic near the Fellaoucene court,” concluded the press release.
