Inauguration of the New Embassy of Tanzania in Algiers

ALGIERS – The new embassy building of the United Republic of Tanzania in Algeria was officially inaugurated on Wednesday in the presence of the Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Stergomena Lawrence Tax, and the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf.

During her speech, Ms. Stergomena Tax mentioned that Tanzania has had an embassy in Algeria for many years, and its new headquarters were officially inaugurated today, highlighting the “depth” of relations between the two countries, which have been established for 60 years.

The Tanzanian minister also acknowledged the prominent role of former diplomat Noureddine Djoudi in deepening and strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries as the first Algerian ambassador to Tanzania. She commended the efforts he made in this regard.

Furthermore, Ms. Stergomena Tax expressed Tanzania’s willingness to further enhance cooperation with Algeria, praising the successful outcome of the 5th session of the Algerian-Tanzanian Joint Commission, culminating in the signing of six agreements, memorandums of understanding, and executive programs defining cooperation priorities between the two countries.

On this matter, the Tanzanian minister called for the swift implementation of the agreements and memorandums of understanding covering various vital areas and sectors.

For his part, Mr. Attaf also welcomed the “positive results” of the 5th session of the Algerian-Tanzanian Joint Commission, attributing it to the guidance of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ms. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The Algerian minister also emphasized the “strength and solidity” of the relations between Algeria and Tanzania, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to “strengthen and valorize the common historical legacy of their relations at all levels.” He also praised the role of former diplomat Noureddine Djoudi in advancing Algerian-Tanzanian relations.

On this occasion, Ms. Stergomena Tax distinguished Mr. Djoudi, acknowledging his diplomatic efforts and his contribution to consolidating relations between the two countries.

The inauguration of the embassy was attended by African ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria.
