ALGIERS – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, received a delegation from the Confederation of Algerian Industrialists and Producers (CIPA) on Sunday in Algiers to address concerns, primarily related to the ostrich farming sector, according to a statement from the ministry.
The delegation, led by Abdelwahab Ziani, President of CIPA, included representatives from the National Association of Ostrich Professionals and Breeders under the organization, as stated in the same source.
This meeting, attended by ministry officials and the Director General of the Technical Institute for Livestock (ITELV), is part of the “participatory approach that the sector places great importance on, by addressing the concerns of all national entities and organizations.”
During the meeting, delegation members provided comprehensive presentations on the economic importance of the “ostrich farming” sector.
On this occasion, Mr. Henni reiterated the sector’s commitment to developing the ostrich farming sector in Algeria due to its economic advantages, including the utilization of most of its parts (meat, skins, fats), as well as eggs.
He emphasized the sector’s pioneering experience in scientific research, through the strengthening of the role of relevant Institutes and Research and Training Centers that effectively contribute to the promotion of agriculture, livestock, red meat production, and the support of all breeders. This is achieved through training at the Technical Institute for Livestock (ITELV), which has prior experience in ostrich farming and ensuring animal health coverage.
The ministry assured that the proposals put forward during this meeting will be taken into consideration, affirming that investors in ostrich farming will receive all necessary facilities, with the aim of enhancing food security.
Emphasis was also placed on the possibility of commercializing camel milk in the northern provinces.
Finally, Mr. Henni called for organizing a study day on the dairy sector and agricultural insurance, concluded the statement.
