The labor shortage and personnel scarcity in businesses have compelled numerous countries worldwide to recruit foreign workers and reevaluate their immigration policies. Germany is a prime example, severely impacted by this crisis.
In fact, the nation stands to lose up to seven million workers in its establishments by 2035, due to its aging population. Immigration appears to be the only viable solution for Germany to address this labor shortage.
“We are adopting the world’s most modern immigration law,” says the German Interior Minister. Indeed, the German government is drafting its new immigration law, scheduled for Spring 2024. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser considers this law to be the most advanced of its kind. This new legislation anticipates significant changes in the country’s immigration policy.
The new law seeks to facilitate the allocation of the European Blue Card. Additionally, it proposes the establishment of an “Opportunity Card,” based on a points system, similar to Canada’s model. The new German immigration law also aims to simplify the process of family reunification for skilled foreign workers.
