First Artificial Beach in Algiers Sparks Debate on Social Media Due to “Excessive” Access Prices

Algeria is a country blessed with access to the sea, mountains, and desert, making it a potential tourist destination where visitors can experience various climates in one place. During the summer, many citizens choose to visit the northern region of Algeria, which boasts over 2000 kilometers of coastline. However, visitors to the capital city, Algiers, often find that its beaches are either overcrowded or lack proper hygiene, prompting them to seek alternative options, such as private swimming pools.

For the summer of 2023, Algiers welcomes the birth of an artificial beach in the Bouchaoui area. Oxygen Island, the first artificial beach in the capital, has opened its doors to Algiers’ residents and tourists, providing them with a new recreational option.

The launch of this artificial beach has divided internet users. While some applaud the initiative and share positive opinions, a considerable portion of users criticizes the idea, arguing that such a beach has no place in a coastal city.

Additionally, many users have discovered the access prices for Oxygen Island, which are 8500 Algerian dinars for adults and 5000 da for children, for a single entry, meaning for one day only. These prices have been deemed excessive by many, leading them to express their opinions on the beach’s various Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on pages and accounts that have shared the information.
