Europlasma, a specialist in hazardous waste treatment, material recovery, and decarbonization, reports that its subsidiary, Inertam, has definitively won the Algerian market for the treatment of asbestos waste originating from the dismantling of a thermal power plant at its Morcenx-la-Nouvelle site (40).
The company had previously announced on July 11th that it had provisionally won the contract after the initial tender process (press release dated 11/07/2023).
This extensive project plans for the treatment of an estimated 7,000 tons of asbestos waste over three years, corresponding to a total turnover of nearly 15 million euros adjustable based on actual tonnage and the typology of the received waste.
In accordance with applicable regulations, asbestos waste must be treated within six months from the date of their receipt at the Inertam site.
To meet the tender launched by the Algerian electricity production company (SONELGAZ), Inertam partnered with a consortium of Algerian companies composed of its partner NCC Environment (press release dated 24/03/2023), the Hydraulic Works and Environmental Protection Company (ETHPE), and Global Industrial Security Environment (GISE). The project entails the repackaging, collection, transportation, and disposal of asbestos waste arising from the dismantling of the Jijel steam power plant, located near the port of Djen Djen.
“This contract thus demonstrates the Algerian government’s intent to find sustainable treatment methods for its hazardous waste and in the case of asbestos waste, Inertam’s solution naturally emerged as today it is the only alternative to landfill” the group concludes.
