Algeria Electric Vehicles: Around a Hundred Charging Stations by SONELGAZ

Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Energy and Mines, has recently announced the commencement of operations for the first hundred electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, located in the Sablettes promenade of Algiers.

Together with Mourad Adjal, CEO of Sonelgaz (the National Gas and Electricity Company), the minister also revealed plans to bring an additional 300 stations into service before the end of the current year, with a target to have 1,000 stations up and running by the end of 2024.

As a part of this strategic initiative, Sonelgaz will continue to gradually set up around a hundred charging stations at various service stations across the East-West highway, before expanding the project nationwide.

Minister Arkab further mentioned that new power stations, harnessing renewable energy sources and hydrogen, are on the anvil as part of Algeria’s energy mix, signifying the country’s strategic choices on the path towards energy transition.
