The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Moroccan authorities have declined Algeria’s offer to assist in relief operations following the devastating earthquake that occurred on Friday night, resulting in nearly 3,000 casualties in Morocco. Algeria had prepared to send three aircraft carrying relief teams and humanitarian supplies.
Images showed Boufarik military airport in Algeria, where three large military transport planes were on the tarmac awaiting approval from Rabat.
On the other hand, Paris, whose assistance has also not been officially accepted by Morocco, announced a contribution of five million euros for NGOs operating in the country that are involved in relief efforts. President Macron stated, “We will be there in all areas where the Moroccan people and its authorities consider us useful.”
So far, only aid from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, and the United Kingdom has been officially welcomed by Morocco.
