ABUJA – Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria and head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), believes that “diplomacy” is the “best way forward” to resolve the crisis in Niger, as announced by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Tuesday.
Mr. Tinubu and the leaders of other ECOWAS member countries “prefer a resolution achieved through diplomatic and peaceful means over any other,” the spokesperson added. He emphasized that this stance would be upheld “while awaiting any other resolution that may or may not emerge from the extraordinary ECOWAS summit scheduled for Thursday.”
“Every human life matters, and this means that every decision made by the West African bloc will be made with consideration for peace, stability, and development, not only within the sub-region but also across the African continent,” he reassured.
A new summit of ECOWAS Heads of State on the situation in Niger is scheduled for Thursday in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the regional organization.
