Commerce: 30.21 Billion Dinars in Hidden Activities Discovered in the 1st Semester of 2023

The Ministry of Commerce revealed yesterday the report on economic control activities for the first semester of 2023. The shared figures indicate a strong trend of deviation from the laws by traders and actors in the economic sector.

The report shows no less than 100,000 infractions recorded since the beginning of the year. Among these infractions are hidden commercial activities, false tax declarations, and cases of speculation. These results reflect a commercial environment where strict enforcement of regulations is necessary.

During this first semester, the control operations recorded a total of 1,122,692 interventions, during which 111,928 infractions were identified. Additionally, 106,510 minutes of judicial proceedings were drawn up.

The control services took strict administrative measures, leading to the seizure of goods with a total value of 1,132 billion dinars. Furthermore, the closure of 7,380 businesses was proposed.

The report also highlights the discovery of hidden activities amounting to 30.21 billion dinars.

Imports constitute a major area of fraud, and the inspections of imported products at the borders processed 22,345 import declaration files. Mandated agents also refused entry to 317 shipments at border posts.

Regarding the fight against speculation, 105,305 interventions were conducted, resulting in the identification of 72 infractions and the establishment of 72 minutes of judicial proceedings. Additionally, 873.24 tonnes of foodstuffs valued at 499.825 million dinars were seized.
