On July 17, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, embarked on a state visit to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping. The visit aimed to strengthen the deeply rooted friendship and bilateral cooperation in various fields between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference held yesterday, Sunday, July 30, at the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, Chinese Ambassador Li Jian elaborated on the key activities of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent visit to China, applauding its success and fruitful outcomes at all levels.
Algeria – China: Tebboune’s Visit Sets Records!
During the press conference, Chinese Ambassador Li Jian highlighted the significant moments of President Tebboune’s visit to China, noting that several historical records were set. Indeed, “This was the first presidential meeting between the Algerian and Chinese Heads of State and also the first visit to China by an Algerian President in fifteen (15) years,” the diplomat stated.
Coinciding with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Algeria and China, “it was also the first visit to China by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune since his inauguration”. Moreover, “it was the first time an Algerian President gave an exclusive interview to Chinese television (CCTV),” noted the Chinese ambassador.
Furthermore, Ambassador Li Jian emphasized “the depth, solidity, and sincerity of the fraternal friendship between Algeria and China,” adding that “this historic and successful visit at all levels will provide a new impetus to the development of bilateral partnership.”

In the same vein, it is worth noting that at the end of the Head of State’s visit, the two countries signed nineteen (19) documents, including cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding in several fields, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting relations in all areas.
Moreover, Ambassador Li Jian summarized the activities of this visit in five (5) points. First, he recalled “the warm and grand welcome that China accorded to President Tebboune and his accompanying delegation, reflecting the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries.”
Next, the Chinese diplomat mentioned “the strengthening of mutual political trust and strategic cooperation between Algeria and China.” In this regard, Ambassador Li Jian did not fail to specify that “his country hailed and supported Algeria’s desire to join the BRICS.”
Additionally, he reported “the convergence of opinions between the two countries to find political and peaceful solutions to the Palestinian issue, as well as the situation in Sudan, Libya, Mali, Yemen, and Syria.”
Towards an Increase in Investment Volume between Algeria and China
On another note, the Chinese diplomat also indicated that during this visit, “the two parties consolidated their intentions to cooperate and agreed to synergize their development strategies globally,” asserting that “China will support economic development in Algeria, providing material, technological, and financial support.”
Regarding the signing of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding, the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria stated that “these documents covered various fields, such as petrochemicals, mining, agriculture, scientific and space research, and renewable energies.”
As for investments, the Chinese diplomat reported “the two parties’ intention to increase the volume of investments, in line with the provisions of the new investment law in Algeria, with the aim to create a favorable, incentive, suitable, and encouraging investment environment, as well as to consolidate the economy, trade, and investment, and to open broader horizons of bilateral economic cooperation.”
