ALGIERS – The President of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania, Stergomena Lawrence Tax, on Wednesday in Algiers, during her official visit to Algeria, as stated in an APN press release.
The meeting, which took place at the Assembly headquarters, allowed for a review of “the depth of the historical relations between the two countries.” Mr. Boughali expressed his desire to see “these relations further develop through continued joint efforts to realize the will of both nations in building fruitful collaboration in the service of common interests,” the statement added.
In the same context, Mr. Boughali emphasized that Algeria and Tanzania share a “common vision on several international and regional issues, such as the situation in Libya, the crisis in Niger, the Sahel-Saharan region, and the need to promote intra-African rapprochement for resolving the continent’s problems, free from foreign interference.”
During this occasion, the President of the Assembly expressed “his gratitude for Tanzania’s support in obtaining Algeria’s status as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2024-2025.” He also congratulated the successful outcomes of the 5th session of the Algerian-Tanzanian Joint Commission, expressing hope that it “meets the expectations of both peoples and countries.”
On the parliamentary level, Mr. Boughali reaffirmed “his readiness to support joint action between the two legislative bodies and provide all means to strengthen cooperative relations, exchange experiences, and coordinate positions on matters of common interest at regional, continental, and international levels.”
On her part, the Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs praised “the strength of historical relations between the two countries” and expressed her country’s determination “to further expand these relations to encompass more areas.”
She also extended congratulations to Algeria on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and conveyed her sorrow for the human losses due to the recent wildfires, as stated in the press release.
Regarding the Joint Commission, Minister Tax stated that it is “an important opportunity to strengthen friendship and bilateral cooperation” and advocated “the exchange of visits to explore investment opportunities in both countries” while emphasizing her full commitment to elevate such relations to the highest levels.
The Tanzanian diplomat called for “combined efforts to protect the interests of the African continent by strengthening African unity and creating wealth to restore Africa’s rightful place, particularly in the face of international and regional challenges confronting the world today, such as terrorism, extremism, and coups d’état,” the statement concluded.
