WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, conveyed his “full support” for the UN-led political process in Western Sahara during a meeting in Washington with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Community Abroad, Mr. Ahmed Attaf.
In a tweet posted Wednesday evening following his discussions with Mr. Attaf, the U.S. Secretary of State announced that he had expressed his “full support for the UN political process in Western Sahara.”
“I met with Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmed Attaf to discuss the U.S.-Algerian partnership and consult on various issues of mutual interest, including stability in the Sahel,” stated Mr. Blinken.
On his end, the spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, Matt Miller, indicated that Antony Blinken reiterated his full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, in his consultations with relevant parties to reach a political solution in Western Sahara.
Furthermore, Mr. Blinken congratulated Mr. Attaf on Algeria’s election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, underscoring the United States’ willingness to collaborate closely with Algeria on all matters addressed by the Security Council, as per the Department of State spokesperson.
