ALGIERS – Algeria will celebrate the National Day of the People’s National Army (ANP) on Friday, decreed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in recognition of the pioneering roles of the military institution in protecting the homeland and fulfilling its noble constitutional missions to ensure overall security in line with an enlightened vision, and in consecration of its perpetual cohesion with the Algerian people.
The heroic interventions of ANP members to rescue and assist citizens besieged by recent forest fires in certain regions of the country, which were extinguished in record time with the collaboration of the Forest Conservation and Civil Protection agents, perfectly illustrate this cohesion.
Ten soldiers fell as martyrs during the operations to evacuate citizens trapped by the flames, once again proving the strength of the ties between the army and the nation.
This tragedy, which claimed 34 victims, has reinforced the values of solidarity and mutual aid among Algerians, as evidenced by the national outpouring of support and sympathy for the families of the victims, both civilians and military, through messages of condolences and compassion flooding social media, including a message of condolence from the President of the Republic. Photos of the victims and videos immortalizing the heroism and courage of ANP members, the proud heir of the National Liberation Army (ALN), facing the flames and participating in rescue operations, have been shared, showcasing their efforts to master the fires with significant material and human resources mobilized.
Since independence, the People’s National Army (ANP) has remained “the standard-bearer of the glorious martyrs and mujahideen,” as emphasized by the President of the Republic in his message on the occasion of the celebration of the 61st anniversary of Independence and Youth Day, paying tribute to the worthy heir of the National Liberation Army (ALN), “standing proudly and honorably at the borders and on the fronts, defending the Homeland and the Nation.”
