Algeria-Uganda: Zitouni Received by Ugandan President in Kampala

ALGER – Tayeb Zitouni, the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, was received on Tuesday in Kampala (the capital of Uganda) by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. This reception took place in the context of his participation, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the proceedings of the 2nd African Coffee Summit, as stated in a ministry statement.

During this meeting, Mr. Zitouni conveyed “President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s greetings to his brother, President Yoweri Museveni,” the statement added.

This encounter focused on the economic and trade relations between the two countries, which were reinforced by the two presidents during the recent visit of the Ugandan President to Algeria. This visit led to the signing of various memorandums of understanding in numerous sectors, according to the same source.

In this context, the Minister reviewed “the products that will be included in the trade exchanges between the two countries as part of promoting bilateral trade between Algeria and Uganda.”

The Ugandan President, for his part, expressed his “desire to intensify communication and work towards promoting and elevating economic cooperation between the two countries to the level of privileged political relations.”

Furthermore, during his participation in the opening of the “2nd Coffee Summit,” Mr. Zitouni affirmed that Algeria’s presence at this significant gathering “aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s instructions to direct trade exchanges towards Africa.” He emphasized President Tebboune’s consistent support for consolidating and enhancing inter-African trade, the necessity of local industrialization of raw materials available within African states, and the enhancement of African integration in terms of industrialization.

Zitouni also highlighted “the need for intensified efforts by all African states to protect African economic sovereignty and encourage import and export among these states for a strong African economy, given the potential of the continent.” The Minister also mentioned that “Algeria proposes to gather African coffee-producing and consuming states during the 3rd edition of this summit, scheduled for next year, to promote African consumption.”

According to the ministry, the opening of the “2nd African Coffee Summit” took place on Tuesday in Kampala, with the participation of 25 African coffee-producing states. The event was chaired by the Ugandan President and aimed to discuss and debate the challenges faced by this important agricultural sector.
