Air Algerie: Inauguration of Direct Flight Route from Algiers to Johannesburg

Air Algerie, the national airline, has publicized the launch of a direct flight route connecting Algiers to Johannesburg, South Africa. This route will operate with two (2) flights every week, on Sundays and Thursdays, starting from September 21.

Air Algerie’s spokesperson, Amine Andaloussi, shared with APS on Tuesday that the official inauguration of this line is planned for August 21, a full month before the first commercial flight is scheduled.

Andaloussi disclosed that the round-trip ticket would begin at a price of 67,327 DA including all taxes. He further emphasized that flights on this route would run every Sunday and Thursday.

“The initiation of this flight line is in alignment with the instructions from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aiming to bolster Air Algerie’s international network and to cultivate the Algiers Hub. It also forms part of the strategic pathway outlined by the Ministry of Transport and the national airline for the launch of routes, enabling the latter to strengthen its positioning in Africa,” he stated.

He also conveyed that the opening of the Algiers-Johannesburg route is of “great significance” to the African continent. It symbolizes a non-stop service between the “two gateways to Africa.”

Andaloussi explained, “Travelers from South Africa and neighboring countries will be able to transit via the Algiers Hub to reach various destinations offered by the airline in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America.”

Furthermore, he assessed that this route would enhance Algiers Airport’s status as a Hub, reminiscing the rich schedule of international flights planned by Algerian airlines, including notably 200 weekly flights to France.

This initiative reflects a strategic move to connect major African cities and foster greater accessibility and movement within the continent and beyond. The new flight route not only serves the interests of the airline but also aligns with broader governmental visions and ambitions, making travel between these two vital African locations more convenient and streamlined.
