ALGIERS – Nineteen (19) terrorist hideouts containing explosives and detonation tools were discovered and destroyed by a detachment of the Algerian National People’s Army (ANP) in Tébessa, while a supporter of terrorist groups was apprehended in another operation, during the period from August 2 to 8, as stated in an operational report released by the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) on Wednesday.
“In the dynamic pursuit of sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the Algerian National People’s Army executed several operations during the period from August 2 to 8, 2023, yielding quality results that reflect the high professionalism, vigilance, and permanent readiness of our Armed Forces across the entire national territory,” as highlighted by the same source.
“As part of the anti-terrorism campaign, a detachment of the Algerian National People’s Army discovered and destroyed 19 terrorist hideouts containing explosives, detonation tools, and other materials during a search and sweep operation in Tébessa. Additionally, one (1) supporter of terrorist groups was apprehended in another separate operation,” the statement added.
In the context of the fight against organized crime and “in continuation of sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP intercepted 51 drug traffickers in coordination with various security services during operations conducted across Military Regions. They recovered a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun (01), thwarted attempts to introduce 10 quintals and 66 kilograms of processed cannabis from the borders with Morocco, and seized 531,435 psychotropic tablets,” the statement noted.
